mum called to break the news of my koh poh's (grandpa's sister) passing away. a smile crept up my face...FINALLY!
she have been deaf for 20 years, blind for almost 9 years and bedridden for the past 8 years. to her childrens, she's been nothing but a great nuisance. so as a way of repaying their single mother who work hard day and night to provide them good education and a better life, they LEFT her at the old folks home despite her begging and crying. she was sometimes beaten up by the nurse there for messing up the bed. i wonder how can some people be so heartless at times?
the last time i visited her was 2 years back at the old folks home. she held my hands tightly...not willing to let go. i held her hands back even tighter, unrestrained tears flowing freely down my cheeks. that's when i vowed never ever to see her again. call my selfish and crazy but it hurts so much that i can't help to asked when is she going to die?
when i was a kid, i would often look forward for her stay over at my place. her stay often last for 2 weeks, the maximum. whenever it's time for her to return back to her place, i remembered myself throwing endless amount of tantrums to make her stay. i like her staying at my place because she keeps me company in the morning whenever grandma goes to the market. i like her staying at my place because my house seems much more lively. i like seeing her and grandma talking because grandma was forced to talk louder...and it's like as though their quarrelling. i like the way she drive grandma up the wall with her silliness. i like playing with the dangling fats on her armpit and she would often complaint it to my grandma. i like the way she asked for sweets and chocolates whenever she sees me with it.
i like her. i miss her. i'll always remember the memories i had with her. i know she is in a better place right now and i couldn't be more than happy for her. may you rest in peace, koh poh.
